Joanne Richards is a registered patent attorney and seasoned AV-rated trial lawyer. Over the past 3+ decades, she has successfully litigated various cases to verdict, summary judgment, and through appeal in state and federal courts throughout the country. The cases have involved class actions, patent infringement, trademark misappropriation, antitrust, product liability, medical malpractice and wrongful death, contracts, insurance, and business law.
Ms. Richards has provided strategic intellectual property counseling to domestic and foreign Fortune 500 corporations on issues of patent validity and infringement, invention priority, and patentability. She has also managed international patent portfolios and negotiated multi-national licensing agreements.
As General Counsel and outside counsel to several young generic pharmaceutical companies, Ms. Richards expanded licensing partnerships and significantly increased their ANDA filings with FDA, enabling them to triple, not only the number of generic products in their product line, but also gross revenues. She negotiated international and domestic agreements for product development and technology transfer, and reduced corporate risk by instituting new policies to ensure strict compliance with Anti-Kickback, Fraud Waste and Abuse, Stark, and False Claims regulations.
Ms. Richards was law clerk to Florida Supreme Court Justice, Joseph Boyd, and law clerk to U.S. Tax Court Judge, John Pajak.
Ms. Richards attained her degrees in pharmacy and law with honors from the University of Florida. She is certified in FDA Regulatory Affairs and has been certified by the Florida Supreme Court as a civil mediator.
